Taking Refuge

If you’re reading this, I thank you so much! I truly hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. As everybody’s saying, we are indeed in “uncharted territory.” Who would have thought the modern world would come to a halt like this in the 21st Century!? Yet, as I wrote last week, I really believe this was really meant to happen in some ways that we can’t even understand, and I hope that I get to witness the world transform into a much better place when this is over.

Meanwhile, I’m almost done moving although there are some things I can’t get done because of the restrictions we have in our life. Since the Governor announced of the “Safer at Home” ordinance last Thursday night, we decided to get the move done so we can hunker down in the mountains. After all, this is a much better environment to isolate from the world. I can walk to the woods nearby without bumping into anybody except for some birds, squirrels, or bunnies. (I think bears are still hibernating!) It is indeed a refuge, unexpectedly, for which I’m so grateful for.

I must say I notice the increased activities online, which is no brainer in today’s world. So many meetings and events I was scheduled to attend are now conducted via the video conferencing platform. (Has anyone checked to see if Zoom stock is surging?) I can literally be on Zoom sessions all day everyday if I choose to between business related meetings, my recovery meetings and Sangha gatherings. While I’m so grateful to be able to stay connected with my communities, this is also an opportunity for me to practice mindfulness so I’m not on my screen so much. I am still busy unpacking and getting organized, which is not a small task when you’re putting two houses together into one. I am still craving for a time to be still and go within as there are much to contemplate right now.

Having said that, I have set up my Friday lunch time practice group on Zoom as well. As long as the weather allows, I’m hoping to do it from my favorite place in the world, the woods! I hope you can join me. See the detail here.
