It’s Like This…
The past week has undeniably been a whirlwind as I’ve diligently readied a property for the market. This endeavor holds particular significance for me as a green realtor, intensifying my focus and determination. Even my cherished meditation group had to take a backseat, sacrificed for the priority at hand. All preparations culminated in an open house we were primed for over the past weekend. Then came Hilary. Though the visit by this extremely unusual hurricane was fairly brief, it certainly impacted our plan and resulted in rescheduling. the open houses all over again this weekend.
Amid this whirlwind of activity, I found myself feeling unusually stressed. Balancing my clients’ needs with my own well-being seemed like a tightrope walk, especially considering my inclination to overexert myself. Instead of resorting to my customary unwinding method of catching up on news or social media, I heeded a quiet inner voice whispering, “take a pause.” This made me realize that these habits were often just distractions, veering me away from addressing my true feelings. Despite the flutter of anxiety, I chose to confront my emotions head-on. As it turned out, much of this stress stemmed from the uncertainty of how the project would unfold.
Using mindfulness meditation guidance I regularly share in my practice groups, I turned inward. I reconnected with the sensations coursing through my body, all while observing my thoughts and emotions. This process led me to present-moment awareness, “it’s like this” reminding me of a passage from “Sound of Silence,” by Ajan Sumedho, which says “awareness is your refuge.” I grasped the potency of embracing the present and acknowledging reality for what it is. Reminding myself that “it’s like this,” I found solace in this uncomplicated truth amidst the unpredictabilities of life.
