Infallible Source of Joy

It has been a year since we welcomed two adorable 10-week-old kittens into our home last summer. Our granddaughters gave them the names Benji and Zoey. These little furballs have quickly become an essential part of our household, as any animal lover would understand. Thanks to the exceptional care provided by Shelter on the Hill, the kittens settled into our house with ease and immediately showed their affectionate nature and good manners.

While I grew up with cats, my husband Kenny, on the other hand, was never really a cat person, as he claims. When we first got together, I had a cat, whom he hesitantly and gradually bonded with. Later, we adopted another pair of kitties, Nicola and Riley, which was Kenny’s first experience in raising pets. It took him literally years in earning their trust.

The two cats we currently have are truly exceptional. My husband still asks me if I know of any other cats that are as friendly and affectionate as ours. Well, my answer is yes — I have met other kitties that are just as friendly and loving. However, when they are our own, it becomes an entirely different story! These two cats have genuinely stolen our hearts, not only ours but also those of our friends and neighbors, not just because of their personality but also because they are simply stunning.

A year has passed, and now they weigh around 13 lbs, and I’m afraid they are still growing. Nowadays, when they jump on my lap, they seem to spill out of the available space! Of course, having cats on my lap or sleeping with them brings me ultimate comfort. As a child, cats were my refuge whenever I felt sad, angry, or lonely. I would seek solace in their company, and they never failed to provide it.

Recently, I have been facing some emotional challenges, as I mentioned before. It seems like many people around me are also going through difficult times. That is why I am even more grateful to have these young and playful creatures in my house, as they never fail to make me smile, if not burst into laughter. I have noticed how they can lift my spirits and bring me joy, even in the midst of my turbulent thoughts. It is truly a gift to be able to hold both joy and sorrow (or any other challenging emotions) simultaneously.
