Hot, Hotter, and HOTTER
So far the summer has been relatively pleasant despite some days of heat. I was able to evade the extreme by being on the Westside where the marine layers helped the temperature to stay cooler, or by managing to control the temperature in the house with window coverings. I have been able to work some days on my deck outside although it gets too hot by mid-afternoon. Yet by dinner time, it’s cool enough for us to dine al fresco.
I know I’m fortunate that I haven’t experienced much triple-digit heat. Yet, it is undeniable that our climate is heating up everywhere, I mean globally. As I write this, I’m watching the news about the wildfire in Hawaii. As the officials were saying, they were prepared for hurricanes, volcanic eruptions but not this. The reality is it can happen to us any day, especially here in the mountains.
Although I’m far from perfect, I’m making a very concerted effort to do my part of reducing the carbon footprint. Every little choice we make in our daily lives does count. Everything as little as turning off the lights when not used to being as big as putting solar panels on the roof. Bottomline, let’s be mindful of how we use the resources. If you want to hear more specific suggestions, follow me on my podcast, HomeGreenHomes, or let’s have a conversation. It’s not about the environment alone, it’s all about the wellbeing of human species and all other species we live with.
I don’t typically talk about this topic in this space, but it was just in the forefront of my mind today. It is well established that “climate anxiety” is a thing. There are more people turning to meditation practice because of the stress we all experience in our life, and climate issues are certainly a significant cause of stress these days. It is my hope that with our conscious choices we make, we’ll get to leave a thriving planet for our grandchildren to live.
