Finally Slowing Down

My husband and I have been going non-stop for the last few weeks packing, moving, unpacking, driving back to the city to repeat, and unpacking and organizing. Yesterday, we finally reached a point where everything is either stored, put away or set aside to give away, and our house finally feels like a “home” rather than a “warehouse” of sort. We got to have dinner at our dining table for the first time since the move rather than on a coffee table at the sofa.

If feels like a Divine timing that the snow started falling yesterday afternoon and still continuing to fall. Perfect day to linger in pajamas, have a long(er) time of practice, and have a cup of tea with some cookies and watch the snow outside. I can’t help but recognize how incredibly amazing that we ended up being here at this extraordinary time in our history. I’m so grateful for this unexpected blessings.

The truth is even with this #stayathome life we live today, I find that the world is still spinning quite a bit. I don’t know about you, but I am bombarded with invitation emails to attend some sort of Zoom meetings. They all seem to offer some ideas and solutions for how we can make the most out of this stay-at-home period. I think it’s important to recognize that many of us are feeling the impact of this pandemic at many different levels and it is O.K. to be not so productive.

Don’t take me wrong, I’m so grateful that I am able to stay connected with friends, family and colleagues through the modern technology like Zoom and FaceTime. Yet, I know for myself that I can go right back to being over-committed attending all those meetings without leaving my desk.

So I’m entertaining an idea of taking a period of self-directed meditation retreat now that I have a safe place to be. What if I really stopped all my activities and went within? It’s a thought that I’m pondering on today. Ironically, I feel like I need more time to meditate to decide if I would make an extended period of meditations. I will keep you posted.
