Change of Scenery
Change of scenery is good every once in a while. This last weekend, we got to visit friends in Palm Springs. Much needed weekend getaway was planned at the end of February, which was when we had that epic storm come through California. Two months later, we finally drove out through the Antelope Valley to head for the desert. Much anticipated Superbloom of California poppies was rather disappointing. Even though we missed the peak, we got to see a little bit of orange patches. It was nothing like the blooms we have seen in the past.
The weekend was particularly warm, reaching 105 degrees in the desert. I’m not fond of heat in general, yet after the long winter in the mountains it felt so nice to float and sunbathe in the swimming pool. Then we got lucky to attend a Tai-Chi class at Sunnylands Center & Gardens. It happened to be the last class of the season as this magnificent center was about to close for the summer, and it also happened to be the World Tai-Chi Day when people were practicing Tai-Chi at the same time all over the world. That was cool.
Embraced by the bright yellow blossoms of Palo Verdes, this place was meticulously landscaped and maintained. All the desert species were thriving with the backdrop of snow capped Mt. San Jacinto. Quite a view! As I walked the labyrinth in the garden, I was contemplating on Life as I have been lately. It’s not the destination that I get to enjoy the most, but the whole meandering path. We all know where the end is, and we get to take each step on the path in front of us even when we don’t know when and where it ends. It’s kind of like that, right? I think I’m learning to get used to this uncertain nature of my journey and surrendering my impulse to control outcomes in all areas of my life. It can be quite liberating.
