Be Readily Available

I just heard a new definition of mindfulness. Since I’ve been listening to various podcasts while I do my year-end decluttering and purging, I cannot recall which podcast it was and whose definition it was. Basically, it says “mindfulness is being readily available for whatever arises at any moment.” (Definitely paraphrasing.) It sounds like an analogy we often hear in mindfulness practice of being like the vast sky that contains all the changing weathers.

This version — although it’s just new to me — is rather intriguing: “Be readily available.” Especially as we meet the beginning of a new year in a few days, it’s appropriate to ponder on this. So how do I become readily available for whatever comes?

As I shared before, I like to get my living environment tidied up and cleaned up before the end of the year so my home feels physically spacious. I’d like to do the same internally by reflecting, identifying some habits that may be in a way of having clarity in mind, and setting intention to let go of what’s not beneficial for my wellbeing. What can I let go of physically, emotionally, and spiritually so that I’ll be more available for whatever comes?

Besides, who knows what’s coming in the new year. We all wish the new year is better than the ones we just lived in the last few while there’s still much uncertainty in the world as well as in my own life. Whatever comes, I want to be ready and available so that I am living my life fully through trials and tribulations AND joy and excitements with equanimity.

May I be peaceful and readily available for my life as it unfolds.

May you be peaceful and readily available for your life as it unfolds.

May the world be peaceful and readily available to meet with whatever comes with equanimity.
